THE STORY:
This American Crew model came to me with shoulder length, kinky, inky black hair. He had been in a hair shoot the week before for an unrelated client. The show he was in had bleached his hair to white - he hated it so he had colored it back to black himself. Obviously. So between texture, color absurdities, and length, I knew I was facing a challenge. I liked him right away. He was wearing a tank top that said- "Heavy Metal Motherfucker," and a necklace with a big chunk of black tourmaline in it. We were gonna get along. I looked at him and said, "Hello, I'm Sarah, I will be cutting your hair........off. " Now, models don't typically get a voice in their end result, but he was game for any look I wanted to give him. That attitude really opened up the doors for creativity in this shape.
Here is an image of my model before...
And after....
TECHNICAL:
Using clipper work in the bottom half. I did a freehand taper in scalp exposure just at the perimeter of the shape, followed by a weight line into extended taper up to the transition. I pulled the sides out to horizontal to meet with the weight that I built up in to my taper, over directing the top to one side to achieve great length. Through the top, I used my razor to force a wave pattern in isolated sections and to build support for height. His beard I cleaned up with freehand clipper as well and finished his hair and beard with American Crew Grooming Cream. I used a black mascara to touch up his wacky color job. Nobody could even tell!!
The end result was better than I could have imagined. A sinister looking transformation. Dressed in a suit and a skinny orange tie, he opened the American Crew "Opening Night" show with a bang.
Bang bang.
