Portland has it's own quirky sense of all things from donuts to dive bars, freaks and fashion all on the rise. Let's own that right? Having lived here all my life, the free will to BE is in the air I breathe! The city has changed a lot over the years but the push to celebrate individuality is now more than ever I could remember. As a hairdresser in this time, I am having a BLAST. People are wanting change and they are having more guts when doing so with trends like pastel hair, hard parts, and shaved patches.
I'm grateful to be seeing such changes. Fashion means a lot to me. So, when I was contacted by Wella and ELLE magazine about 77 Salon being featured by them I really thought I was being pranked! Most of the time when you see a Salon or other business in the magazines it's marketing, it costs a lot to feature your business. 77 Salon was chosen along with 16 other salons in the USA. WOW.
On June 26, 2014 ELLE Magazine came clear from New York to 77 Salon and threw a Resort Soirée, dripping in Wella's tropical magic that blew our socks off. Some of 77 Salon's staff including Wella Top Stylist Robert Sean Miller, dressed models hair in true Wella style. Myself (Sarah Adams) on makeup and hair along with Adriana Fournier, Sylvia Erichsen, and April Appleyard. Jessica Cress, our salon apprentice and expert buyer for Buffalo Exchange, curated outfits for our models from Project Runway winner Michelle Lesniak's s/s '14 line called Girl Incarnadine. Furthermore, the room was a blush with the floral fashion masterwork of Jessica Munn, Fleurie. Each model adorned with a living tropical wonderment.
The guests? Who knew Portland could look so CHIC??? Bravo. We were feeling the love.
Food in Bloom passed bubbly and beautiful local tasty treats. Swag bags were filled with Wella goodies, ELLE's July issue, tropical candies by local candy artist Quin PDX, sunglasses from EDA Frames and much much more. The DJ Jamar Hughes rocked the house, BOOM BOOM! AND...What is a party without Portland's favorite photographer Mark Daniel Muzzy doing his usual ninja work to immortalize this one special night in the history book. A big thanks goes out to the 77 Salon staff and local distributer support as well - Cosmoprof Jill Monchalin, Lesa Walker.
In my opinion, regarding the fashion industry rising in Portland? Our general desire for individuality is our best asset and our worst enemy. However, key players are making it known the importance. Talent is every f#cking where & ELLE magazine pointing out my Portland salon is a really really good sign.
CHEERS to those of us who made it out that night - and to those rooting us on in spirit! Here are some photos for you to enjoy from the night.
